2 Window Washers Rescued After Getting Stuck Outside 42nd Floor Of Boston Skyscraper

BOSTON (CBS) – Two window washers were rescued Thursday afternoon after getting stuck high outside a skyscraper in downtown Boston.

The men were in a mechanical basket outside the 42nd floor of 100 Sudbury Street when there was a malfunction.

"They were waving to us letting us know they were ok – through the window," Boston Fire Captain Paul Lyons said. "They seemed pretty calm. They were secured to the rig itself with their safety lines."

According to rescuers, the mechanics who could fix the lift would have had to come all the way from New York. Instead of waiting, Boston Firefighters removed a window and were able to get the two men, who are in their 30s, out of the basket and into the building safely.

"Worked out well," Lyons said. "We train for it a lot. So times like these the guys get up there and they know exactly what to do."

The fire department said the two window washers were uninjured and in "good spirits" after their rescue.
