Drenching rain and very windy Friday

Next Weather: WBZ Forecast

By Terry Eliasen, WBZ-TV Meteorologist, Executive Weather Producer

BOSTON - Friday will be abnormally warm, but we'll have another windswept rain event.

Expect the toughest travel and heaviest rain to be near coastal areas and particularly over southeastern Massachusetts this morning.

The winds will also peak during Friday morning. Expect south-southeasterly gusts between 35 and 45 mph over portions of southeastern Mass.

The winds with this storm will not be as strong as some of our past storms this fall and winter, so we are not all that concerned with power outages or much damage.

The gusts will also die down rather quickly later on Friday.

The rain showers will slowly push eastward, clearing the coastline and outer Cape early in the afternoon. No impactful weather is expected Friday evening or overnight.

Over the weekend, there will be a secondary storm that forms well offshore. We will have to keep a close eye on this, just in case it drifts back towards New England later on Saturday or Sunday. We cannot rule out some wet snow accumulation over parts of southeastern Mass. later this weekend, should this occur.

The overall pattern heading into next week continues to look mild. For now, there is no major snow or cold in the forecast.
