Boston Debuts City Hall Plaza 'Front Lawn'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston's plans to make City Hall Plaza feel a little more welcoming will take the next step Wednesday.

The city rolled out a 40-by-40 patch of AstroTurf for the area outside City Hall.

Mayor Marty Walsh is also hosting a party to christen the new "Front Lawn," which includes lawn games, board games, music and food trucks.

The party runs from until 2 p.m. The new turf, along with the Adirondack chairs and tables will remain outside for the outdoor season.

The installation of AstroTurf at City Hall Plaza is expected to cost about $600, the mayor's office said.

Walsh will also announce the winner of the Boston snow melt challenge after the towering pile of snow in South Boston finally melted following a historic winter.
