WBZ-TV Weather Alert: Potential Flooding And Severe Storms Monday
BOSTON (CBS) - It looks like an active weather day ahead for a portion of New England.
A WBZ-TV Storm Watch Weather Alert has been posted because of the potential for tropical drenching downpours and possible strong to damaging wind gusts in a few spotty strong to severe storms.
The trigger is an approaching cold front from the west.
With showers and storms training over the same general area Monday afternoon and evening, the threat exists for some street and urban flash flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from noon through late Monday night in the depicted bright green zone.
It is possible that this zone will be shifted to the east late today to account for the potential of heavy rain in eastern and southeastern Massachusetts tonight.
The Storm Prediction Center is currently anticipating a slight to enhanced risk of scattered nasty thunderstorms as depicted here in this chart.
Any severe weather is likely to occur in the time frame of 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. After that, there should be decreasing risk of any severe weather but downpours and lightning could very well linger into the early morning hours Tuesday over eastern and southeastern Mass.
The primary impacts would be flooding rain in several areas followed by damaging winds in a few areas followed by a very slim to no risk of any quick spin-up tornadoes or large, damaging hail.
Some smaller hail is possible from some of the storms. Cloud-to-ground lightning is always dangerous and many communities will experience that from this afternoon into tonight.

This model is depicting the heaviest rain and greatest potential for severe weather to the west of Boston. By the time the activity arrives in coastal New England, the heating of the day will have terminated so some weakening is expected.
With that said, however, there could be some pockets of torrential downpours and some lightning over southeastern Mass. in the early morning hours before the frontal boundary arrives and pushes offshore just after dawn Tuesday.
The humidity will be decreasing from northwest to southeast across New England late Monday night into Tuesday. Although not becoming super dry initially, it should still become more comfortable tomorrow with refreshing air Wednesday and most of Thursday.
