Red Sox Recall Kelly To Make Start Against Indians, Demote Ramirez

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox have recalled pitcher Joe Kelly and demoted relieve Noe Ramirez.

The team announced the move in a news statement released Saturday afternoon.

Kelly, who had been on the 15-day disabled list, made three rehab starts before the call-up, going 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA. He allowed a pair of runs over 14 1/3 innings of work.

The 27-year-old right-hander will made the start in Boston's Saturday game against the Cleveland Indians.

Ramirez, 26, has appeared nine games for the Red Sox, allowing six runs over 9 1/3 innings for a 5.79 ERA.

The moves comes before the second game of a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians. Boston lost the first game 4-2 Friday night.

Boston plays the Indians at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday at Fenway Park.
