Red Sox Will Play Indians In ALDS
BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox now know their first playoff opponent. The only thing left to be determined is where the series will start.
The Texas Rangers clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the American League Friday night with a win over Tampa Bay.
As a result, The Red Sox and Cleveland Indians are now assured to play each other in the American League Division Series beginning Thursday.
With two games to play, the only thing still to be determined is whether Boston will be the No. 2 seed or the No. 3 seed entering the playoffs.
Thanks to a half-game lead, the Red Sox have a magic number of two with two games to play if they want to seal homefield advantage in the first round.
That would give the Red Sox three home games in the best-of-five series.
Because seeding, and potentially the wildcard winners, mat not be determined by the end of play on Sunday, Cleveland may be forced to play a makeup game with Detroit on Monday.
MLB has not yet announced a starting time for Thursday's Game 1 between Cleveland and the Red Sox.
The Indians are managed by Terry Francona, who led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.
