Boston, Worcester Public Schools closed Friday due to extreme cold
BOSTON – There will be no classes on Friday for Boston or Worcester Public Schools students due to anticipated extreme cold.

The districts made the announcement Thursday afternoon.
"With extreme weather conditions and many of our students walking to and from school and waiting for public transportation outdoors, we have decided to close school for the day," Boston Superintendent of Schools Mary Skipper said in a letter to families.
School meals will still be handed out to Boston students who need them.
"Due to the forecasted extreme cold and windchill tomorrow, Friday, February 3, 2023, there will be no school," Worcester Public Schools tweeted. "Before and after school programs are also canceled."
Temperatures are expected to freefall Friday afternoon, falling to the teens by midday. By the evening commute, temperatures will likely be in single digits.
"We do think about those children who are dressing themselves. The children who don't have all the layers and all the luxuries," said Ana Tavares, Assistant Superintendent for Family and Community Advancement for BPS. "We really had to think about can we expose them to the possibility of being in harm's way. The decision was no."
In Boston, meals will be available for families at the following 13 sites, open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023:
