Boston Set To Introduce Dozens Of New Propane School Buses
BOSTON (AP) — Thousands of Boston public school students will now board new propane-fueled school buses, which are considered more environmentally friendly and quieter than diesel buses.
The school district is introducing 86 new buses starting Tuesday as part of a plan to replace more than 750 buses.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers diesel exhaust to be a serious public health problem because it contains small particles that can become stuck in the lungs.
Children are more sensitive to diesel exhaust because they breathe faster. Inhaling the exhaust can cause asthma attacks.
The city paid about $90,000 per bus.
