Boston Police Commissioner Urges Students Protest Peacefully After Ferguson Decision

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans sent a message to area college and university students Thursday asking that any demonstrations that arise from the grand jury's decision on a Ferguson, Mo., police officer who shot dead an unarmed black teen be responsible and peaceful.

A grand jury is expected to decide in coming days whether the officer, Darren Wilson, will face criminal charges for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown in August.

"We are asking students to be mindful that there may be outside agitators trying to provoke and instigate otherwise peaceful protests," Evans wrote on the department's Facebook page.

"I ask that if public demonstrations occur as a result of the decision they are done with respect to our neighbors and businesses, responsibly and peacefully."

Should students decide to demonstrate, Evans urged they to "do so in a way that would make your school, your family, and your city proud."
