Two Charged After Fatal Roxbury Shooting
BOSTON (CBS) – One person was killed and two were arrested following a double shooting Thursday night in Roxbury.
Boston police were called to Dudley and Shirley Streets just after 11 p.m.
Two people, 22-year-old Raheem Ramirez and another man, had been shot. Ramirez was pronounced dead less than an hour later at an area hospital.
The second victim is expected to survive.
Police briefly chased two suspects who left the scene on a scooter.
Boston officers attempted to stop the scooter, but the driver led police on a high speed chase, often driving the wrong way on one-way streets.
After stopping the scooter, Elijah Small ran away from officers.
During the chase, police heard an object hit the ground. They later located a gun allegedly belonging to Small.
The driver of the scooter, Lamar Brison, 24, was arrested without incident. Police say, however, that he made false statements about where he had been earlier in the night.
"It's unfortunate," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, adding there have now been five shootings in the last two days in the city.
Brison and Small were ordered held on $100,000 cash bail during their Friday arraignments.
Small's bail on an open assault case was revoked, while Brison was held on a warrant charging him with violating his probation after being released from jail on a 2012 gun case.
The men are next slated to appear in Suffolk County Gun Court on July 31.
