Boston Police Body Camera Pilot Program Begins

BOSTON (CBS) - One hundred police officers across the city will be wearing body cameras for the first time Monday as the long-debated pilot program begins.

The program will last for six months. Then the police department will take a look at the program and decide what to do next.

Police Commissioner Bill Evans says he believes a lot of the officers are looking forward to wearing these cameras.

"I went to a lot of roll calls over the last three months and most of the officers accept that this is the new technology for police," Evans said.

The program is starting a little late because of a challenge from the officers' union.

The head of the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association says it wasn't that they're opposed to body cameras, they just wanted to express concerns about their bargaining rights.
