Boston Artist Motivates Marathon Runners With 'Unstoppable' Music Video
BOSTON (CBS) - A new music video about the meaning of the Boston Marathon is getting viral traction. Maybe you've seen it. It's called "Unstoppable" and the Boston musician behind the song delivers a powerful message for us all.
It's a rap song by Devin Ferreira, thinking about his own experience running Boston and about the roadblocks we all face. "The Marathon is a metaphor for life because life is a marathon, not a sprint. This song is about victory, this song is about perseverance, this song is about overcoming, and making it through something," he explains.
The video is a team effort between Devin and WBZ. A few years ago Devin met WBZ graphic artist Ron Wilhelmsen at a gig. The two became friends, and ultimately that friendship resulted in "Unstoppable."
Ron is one of the runners in the video. "Things will knock you down, but get back up. When you're able to run a marathon it kind of says there's nothing in the world you can't do," Devin says.
Devin is a two time marathoner and the performing arts director at the Boys and Girls Club of Boston's teen center in Mattapan. He recorded the song with the help of some of the young people he works with.
"At the end of the day there are more people who want you to succeed than to fail, and harnessing their energy and absorbing their positivity will take you to Boylston St. And when you stand victorious at the finish line with your hand raised, that's something you can truly be proud of because you overcame adversity and you didn't give up when things got tough," Devin says.
If you'd like to see Devin, he'll perform at the Hard Rock Cafe on Marathon Monday night.
