Boston Mayor Opposes Putting Olympics Question To Voters
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Martin Walsh says he opposes putting the city's 2024 Olympics bid before voters.
Opponents of bringing the Olympics to Boston have raised the possibility of collecting enough signatures to place a question on a statewide ballot.
An aide to Walsh issued a written statement Wednesday saying Walsh doesn't support a voter referendum on the Olympics, but "looks forward to engaging in a robust community process and having a two-way conversation with all neighborhoods."
The statement adds that if opponents collect enough signatures for a referendum, Walsh respects the right of voters to voice their opinion.
Gov. Charles Baker said Friday that he supports the ballot initiative process, but is unsure how opponents would frame a question.
Boston was selected to be the American nominee for the 2024 Summer Games.
