Boston Marathon Winner Atsede Baysa Gives Trophy To Bobbi Gibb

BOSTON (CBS) -- A day after winning the Boston Marathon women's race, Atsede Baysa gave her trophy to the first woman to ever finish the marathon in honor of her bravery and courage 50 years ago.

At the post-Boston Marathon press conference Tuesday, Baysa handed the trophy off to Bobbi Gibb, who became the first woman to run the race in 1966.

Baysa decided to give Gibb the trophy after hearing of her pioneering run, made before women were allowed to participate in the marathon.

"I'm just moved to tears," said Gibb after Baysa gave her the trophy.

Gibb said she would keep the trophy for a year, and then bring it to Baysa in her native Ethiopia.

Baysa and men's race winner Lemi Berhanu Hayle also received checks from marathon sponsor John Hancock for $150,000 each.

"Boston is a big marathon," Hayle said. "I've been dreaming to win the Boston Marathon. I have no words again, I'm so happy."

Baysa and Hayle, both from Ethiopia, completed the first sweep of the Boston Marathon by Ethiopian runners.
