Boston College Prepares For Wake Forest And ACC Tournament
By Gregory Hunt
Boston College is already locked into the No. 12 seed in the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, but the Eagles will try to end the regular season on a high note when they face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons Saturday afternoon at Conte Forum. Wake Forest is locked into the No. 11 seed, so both teams will play on the opening day of the tournament Tuesday afternoon at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
BC will face the No. 13 seed while Wake Forest will face the No. 14 seed. Those seeds will be filled by Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, but their final seedings will be determined by the outcome of Virginia Tech's regular season finale Saturday at home against Miami. Georgia Tech has already finished its regular season, losing its finale Tuesday at home to North Carolina 81-49.
The Eagles' game against Wake Forest will be the only regular season game between the teams this year. The teams also met only once last season, with the Eagles coming away with an 80-72 victory at Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In that game, then-junior Ryan Anderson led the Eagles with 24 points and seven rebounds, and he went 14-for-16 from the foul line. Anderson later transferred to Arizona.
Wake Forest comes to Chestnut Hill with a 13-17 overall record, 5-12 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons have lost four out of their last five games, including a 94-51 loss at Duke Wednesday night. Their last victory was a 69-66 win at home over Pittsburgh this past Sunday.
The Demon Deacons are led by two star players, junior guard Codi Miller-McIntyre and junior forward Devin Thomas. Miller-McIntyre, who is from Concord, North Carolina but attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, leads the team in scoring (13.9 PPG) and is also the second-leading rebounder (4.9 RPG). Thomas, who attended Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the team's leading rebounder (8.9 RPG) and its second-leading scorer (11.8 PPG).
In Wednesday's loss to Duke, Miller-McIntyre had 20 points, five assists and four rebounds; but Thomas was held scoreless and grabbed only one rebound in 20 minutes of play.
