Boston ClimbCorps Event Steps Up To Heart Disease Challenge

BOSTON (CBS) -- About 1,000 people participated Sunday in the third annual ClimbCorps fund-raiser in the city to help fight heart disease.

The event, which featured a 38-flight ascent at Exchange Place on State Street, raised money for heart disease education, medical programs and research.

ClimbCorps is associated with Brigham and Women's Hospital, which crafted a six-week training program for ClimbCorps participants that included several stretching and strengthening exercises. Anyone 11 or older was eligible to participate.

After working out for a cause, stair climbers at Exchange Place could attend a reception that included snacks and beverages as well as health information.
