Boston Takes Step Toward Allowing BYOB At Some Restaurants
BOSTON (CBS) -- If you're a fan of bringing your own beer (BYOB) or wine to restaurants, Boston took another step toward bringing that plan to fruition.
On Thursday, the Boston Licensing Board unanimously voted in favor of changing the rules and regulations on BYOB, according to a statement released Friday by the city.
The licensing board is expected to submit the revised regulations to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh in the coming months.
In the statement, the mayor says the changes should improve economic activity across the city.
Patrons aren't currently allowed to bring any alcoholic drinks onto any licensed property.
"Yesterday's vote is an exciting step forward as the Licensing Board officially sanctioned BYOB dining in Boston," said City Council President Michelle Wu in the statement.
"BYOB will bring new vitality to our city by giving small business owners and consumers more options to build a vibrant restaurant scene in every neighborhood."
The licensing board will be coming up with rules to regulate BYOB, and they will also schedule a public hearing at some point in the future.
In late 2015, Walsh and the Boston City Council signed an ordinance to allow BYOB to be considered by the licensing board, according to the statement.
