Reilly Smith Not Talking To Brother Brendan Because He Plays For Detroit

BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins Seventh Player Award winner Reilly Smith joined The Adam Jones Show to talk some playoff hockey Tuesday night, and about the Boston's upcoming playoff match-up with the Detroit Red Wings.

Smith's brother Brendan is a defenseman for Detroit, so Jones asked him about that relationship right off the bat. The Bruins' forward said that playing his brother is going to be different this time because the stage is so much bigger. He said their meetings on the ice are usually heated, and that facing-off in the playoffs is going to make it more intense.

Reilly said he and his brother talk quite a bit and constantly exchange text messages, but that has changed over the last few days.

"Ever since we found out this match-up was going to come we haven't really talked to each other at all. I don't expect too much talking or communicating over the next week or so because it's going to come down to me against him. If it comes down to a battle, I don't think either of us are going to take it easy on each other."

Smith had nothing but praise when asked about the Red Wings, saying that they're a well-coached team that's tough to play against. He also singled out their top-end skill, remarking, "They have some really talented forwards, and you've got to keep your eye on them at all times."

Smith said his first year in a Bruins uniform has been pretty amazing, and that wearing the spoked-B is a great opportunity. As funny as it sounds, the winger that now plays on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand said that coming out of training camp his first goal was to simply make the team.

From there the conversation turned to the trade that sent Smith to Boston and forward Tyler Seguin to Dallas. The winger said that the deal caught him by surprise; he was having a typical summer day and when he returned home from his workout he found out that he had been dealt on Twitter.

However, Smith said he couldn't be happier now as a Bruin, and is looking forward to playoff time.

Jones and Smith also talked Loui Eriksson, Torey Krug, and Smith's personal favorite moments from his first season in Boston.
