Bomb Training Drill Held At CambridgeSide Galleria

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- It sounded and looked like a real emergency--but it was only a drill.

First responders and mall security participated in the drill, responding to a simulated bomb going off inside the CambridgeSide Galleria Sunday morning.

Mall staff posed as injured victims and were tended to by first responders.

Deputy Police Superintendent Steve Ahearn headed up the training exercise.

"What we wanted to test out is the coordination and the collaboration of the first 35 minutes of a critical incident to see how fire, police, EMS, and the mall staff come together and work through this incident," Ahearn told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe. "The first 30 minutes of one of these critical incidents is crucial for coordination, and to save lives."
