NORWOOD (CBS) -- Police are investigating vandalism done overnight to a Virgin Mary statue outside of a Norwood parish.

A vandal or vandals targeted the statue at the St. Catherine of Siena Parish on Washington Street.

"We are aware of this sad act of vandalism and will be working with (a) specialist to have the statue repaired and restored," Rev. Stephen Donohue told WBZ-TV on Saturday.

Norwood Police Chief William Brooks says, "Obviously, this type of act is particularly disturbing given the timing and the statue that was damaged."

Donation checks can be sent to or dropped off at St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

As of Saturday night, no arrests had been made.
