Blaze Pizza Opens In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- If you are craving pizza for dinner, you may want to head to Cambridge as a new restaurant celebrates its grand opening.

Blaze Pizza on Canal Street is a fast-causal concept with high-quality food, and it is the chain's first Massachusetts location.

Co-owner Jamal Bourote says all of their ingredients are fresh and you won't have to wait long to eat it.

"You can choose your own toppings. It's artisanal pizza without the wait, because we cook it in a very hot oven within three minutes," he told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton.

The restaurant has been setting a record pace in pizzas and customers.

"Everyone's excited," said Bourote. "Blaze pizza is very unique, very special. Very thin, crisp, light as air. When you eat it, you feel so good. And all the ingredients are fresh."

Blaze is pizza with a twist, as customers get to design their own pie.

"It's a build-your-own-pizza concept," Chef Bradford Kent says. "Guests come in and they can build the pizza however they like it down the line."

One guest listed all the toppings on his pie: mushrooms, jalapenos, banana peppers, basil, red pepper, green pepper, spicy sauce, pepperoni, ham, spinach. In all, about 40 toppings were offered, with countless possible combinations.

On Friday, they offered free pizza all day to customers. Blaze plans to open more restaurants in the Fenway area and downtown Boston this summer.
