Bill Belichick Expects 94-Year-Old Mother To Be Screaming At TV During Super Bowl
PHOENIX (CBS) -- In his 15 years in New England, one of the most iconic snapshots of Bill Belichick came on the sidelines in Jacksonville in February 2005, when Tedy Bruschi dumped a bucket of water on Belichick and his father, Steve Belichick, in celebration of winning Super Bowl XXXIX.
Though Belichick's father passed away in November 2005, the lessons he taught his son stay with Bill to this day.
"For me, I'd have to say my dad," Belichick said Friday when asked for the one person who taught him the most about coaching. "I've had the opportunity to be around a lot of great coaches as an assistant coach, other assistants, and obviously worked for a number of great head coaches and interacted with many others, but I mean in the end, my dad had a big influence on me."
Belichick, 62, said that while most of his family will be in attendance on Sunday, his mother won't be able to attend. The head coach expressed that he wishes his mother could have made it, but he knows she'll still be paying close attention to the game.
"My 94-year-old mom won't be here. She's in Annapolis [Md.]," Belichick said. "I know she'll be yelling at the TV set the whole game."
