Bicyclist Struck By Truck During Morning Commute In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- A bicyclist suffered minor injuries after she was hit by a truck in Cambridge during Thursday morning's commute.

The tractor-trailer was taking a right turn onto Sydney Street from Massachusetts Ave. when it struck the bicyclist. The bicycle became lodged between the front wheels of the truck.

Becca Wilson, executive director the Boston Cyclists Union, happened to be bicycling by the accident.

"Seeing a bicycle go underneath a truck is just overwhelming," Wilson said.

This is not the first time a bicyclist has been struck by a truck on Mass. Ave. In August 2015, a cyclist was struck and killed by a flat bed truck on Mass. Ave in the Back Bay, prompting changes to be made to the bike lanes.

"This is just another wake up call that we need side guards on trucks, we need protected bike lanes, and the streets need to be safer."

The cyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
