Beloved Fist-Bumping Bruins Fan In Running For Cancer Group's 'Man Of The Year'
BOSTON (CBS) -- Little Liam Fitzgerald, who is arguably one of the most beloved and popular Bruins fans, is looking to add another title to his name: Man of the Year.
Liam, 8, has joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 10-week competitive fundraising campaign. The female and male that raises the most money and garners the most votes will be deemed the Society's Woman and Man of the Year, respectively.
Liam who has Down Syndrome, has successfully battled leukemia.
He first made headlines in November 2014 when he was invited to sit on the bench during the pregame skate at a Bruins game.
A camera captured the scene as the adorable boy held his fist up, getting a fist bump from every Bruins player leaving the ice. The video went viral.
"We found a way to directly leverage off all that good press we got over something as simple as a fist pump for the Bruins, to open up the opportunities for him to get to know more people and also raise additional funds for research," his father Bill Fitzgerald said.
It's no surprise that he's rallying others to participate in his fundraising campaign through the hashtag #BumpOutCancer.
The campaign challenges people to donate $5 and post a picture or video on social media of you fist bumping someone and challenging 5 people to fist bump others.
