Belmont High Teacher Named Mass. Teacher Of The Year
BELMONT (CBS) --- Belmont High Social Studies teacher Dr. Jeff Shea has been named the Massachusetts Teacher Of The Year.
Shea was praised by students and administrators Tuesday, for his creativity in the classroom. Shea spearheaded the effort for an iPad program at the school, coaches the golf team and teaches global leadership.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports
"To prepare themselves for the 21st century in a global economy, they need a lot of skills in addition to a lot of content knowledge." Shea said. "I think our jobs are incredibly demanding right now and we've got to constantly look for ways to improve."
His students say Shea is passionate about looking at issues on a global scale.
"I took global leadership only because he was the teacher," student Lucy Mitchell said.
A product of the Andover Public Schools, Shea was a golf pro before he went into education.
"It means a lot really to be recognized in this way, teaching is such a great profession and I'm lucky to be able to do it each and every day," he said.
