Small Plane Crashes While Landing In Barnstable

HYANNIS (CBS) -- A small plane veered off a runway Sunday afternoon, striking several vehicles and injuring four people onboard.

The single-engine plane with four people on board was landing at Barnstable Municipal Airport around 1:15 p.m. when it crashed.

"At some point in time the aircraft lost control, it looks like one of the wheels dipped into the grass and lost directional control," said assistant airport manager Katie Servis. "The aircraft then went across the taxiway, into the grass, and then into our rental car parking lot."

The pilot, identified by officials as Basia Mcanaw, was treated and released from the hospital. Officials say one other adult woman and two young girls were also on the plane. No word on their condition.

Crews also worked to clean up betwee 20 to 30 gallons of fuel that spilled from the plane.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
