'B Strong' Snow Sculpture Appears On Boston Common

BOSTON (CBS) -- The last snow bank on the Boston Common has been shaped into an inspirational message, with just over a week to go until the Boston Marathon.

The "B Strong" snow sculpture appeared Sunday morning on the Common, on a day when temperatures were expected to reach the high 60s. WBZ-TV's Chris McKinnon and others snapped pictures of the snow.

"Boston Strong" became the rallying cry for the city after the deadly Boston Marathon bombings in April 2013.

"It's in the spirit of Boston Strong, plus we just had a rough winter," sculptor Sergio Kinsala told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Despite the warm temperatures, co-sculptor George Li said he hopes their creation sticks around for a little while.

"We wanted to put a smile on everyone's faces here," he said. "I hope that people from the marathon that travel across country can possibly see it. . . I don't know how high it's going to be by the time next week comes along."

The city has seen well over 100 inches of snow for the season, setting a record for Boston's snowiest winter ever.

"It says a lot about the city," Michelle from Brockton said. "The spirit and just how everyone comes together, it's really sweet."
