I-Team: Police Were Pursuing Vehicle Involved In Deadly Auburn Crash

AUBURN (CBS) - One man is dead and another man was taken into custody after a three-car crash Thursday afternoon in Auburn.

I-Team sources say police were pursuing a Ford Explorer when it crossed the double yellow line and hit a Toyota Tacoma and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. A passenger in the Jeep - 54-year-old Mike Robidoux of Auburn - was killed.

Tim Robidoux remembered his brother Mike, who owned Central Mass Towing, as a man who would give you the shirt off his back.

"He always tells people to get out of tow trucks' way, and all of a sudden, something of the blue comes in his lane – head on. That's awful." Tim Robidoux said.

Originally from Worcester, Robidoux leaves three sons and a wife.

Sue Bonengel says she and husband are lucky to be alive, after capturing the accident on their dash cam. Evidence police are reviewing.

"Thank God my husband saw him," said Bonengel. "He was in the fast lane moving in and out of traffic."

Nearby video surveillance captured the driver of that Ford Explorer, taking off on foot after that crash and police chasing him. The suspect was arrested a short time later.

The suspect, who had outstanding warrants, had minor injuries and is in custody at the hospital.

"He took away the [most] honest guy in the world - that would help everybody out. It's just wrong," said Tim Robidoux.

The driver of the Jeep is hospitalized with serious injuries.

The accident closed Route 20 at Millbury and School streets for about four hours.
