Murder Suspect Arrested In Brockton Basketball Brawl

BROCKTON (CBS) -- The suspect in a deadly Brockton basketball brawl is being held without bail after appearing in court Monday morning.

Anildo Lopes Correia, 24, was arrested in Fall River Sunday night, where Massachusetts State Police say he was hiding in an apartment. He's charged with the murder of 18-year-old Ywron Martins, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced.

Dozens of teenagers went to the James Edgar Playground at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night for a planned fistfight between two men, prosecutors said. But things got out of control and a brawl broke out.

Three people were stabbed, and Martins was viciously attacked by Correia, also known as "Ace," according to prosecutors. Martins died from his injuries later that night at The Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton.

"He pulled up the victim's shirt over his head, produced a knife and began to stab the victim repeatedly," a prosecutor said.

Correia was ordered held without bail after his arraignment Monday.
