Apple Recalls Beats Pill XL Speakers Over Fire Hazard

CUPERTINO, Calif. (CBS) -- Apple is recalling popular wireless speakers because they pose a fire hazard, according to safety regulators.

About 222,000 Beats Pill XL portable, wireless speakers are being recalled.

Recall Information

Apple said there have been eight reports of the speakers overheating. One incident burned someone's finger, and another damaged a desk.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says anyone who bought the speakers should immediately stop using them and contact Apple for a $325 Apple store credit or electronic payment.

The speakers have been sold in stores and online at Apple.com and Beatsbydre.com from January 2014 through June 2015.

The recalled speakers are described as plastic and capsule shaped, with a small "b" logo on the grille and "beatspillXL" on the handle. They come in black, white, pink, metallic sky and titanium colors.
