Amid Backlash, Amazon Extends Same-Day Delivery To Roxbury

BOSTON (CBS) -- Following backlash by Boston officials and residents, online retailer Amazon has announced it will soon extend its same-day delivery service to Roxbury.

A recent Bloomberg study found that Roxbury was the only section of the city where customers were not eligible for same-day service.

 

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh last week called Amazon's policy "appalling" and discriminatory. Walsh said he personally spoke with executives at Amazon, and now practice is going to change.

"We are always looking to expand the benefits our Prime members receive and that's exactly what we are doing," Scott Stanzel, Amazon's Director of Operations Communications said in a public statement Tuesday. "We are actively working with our local carrier to enable service to the Roxbury neighborhood in the coming weeks."
