Bicyclist dies after being hit by garbage truck in Allston

BOSTON - A man riding an electric bicycle was killed Tuesday morning when he was hit by a garbage truck in Allston.

It happened around 10 a.m. in the area of Hano Street and Cambridge Street.

The bicyclist,  21-year-old Samuel Alvarado, was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

Boston police said the garbage truck driver remained on the scene.

"He is the best, good person. He's always together with me. We fixing bikes or something," said his uncle, Melecio Alvarado. He was waiting at Dunkin' Donuts for Samuel when he got the call about the accident.

Melecio said Samuel had moved to the U.S. from Honduras two years ago. He worked as a cook and loved to play guitar.

Police shut down Cambridge Street between Harvard Street and Union Square for hours, Tuesday, while investigators took pictures around the garbage truck, interviewed witnesses, and searched for surveillance video.
