All Things Travel: JetBlue Adds Flights
BOSTON (CBS) - While the snow was falling this weekend, JetBlue Airways was making news with new flights to warm weather destinations.
Three new cities are being added for seasonal travel starting in June. They are Port-au-Prince, Haiti with flights on Wednesday and Saturday. The other two destinations for the summer months are Martha's Vineyard and Sacramento, California.
JetBlue is the largest U.S. carrier flying to the Caribbean.
January numbers released by JetBlue showed a profitable airline with passenger traffic up 14.3 percent on a capacity increase of 15.4 percent. The load factor on its aircraft was 81.9 percent.
JetBlue also has a new charter arrangement to have its' planes fly weekly from Tampa to Havana. The airline will most likely start non-stop flights from Boston and New York as soon as the U.S. government approves such service.
Meanwhile, Massport will welcome three new airlines to Logan this spring. Activities planned for the start-up of Aero Mexico, Cathay Pacific and El Al have not been finalized.
JetBlue's Terminal C operations were busy Saturday morning as families left town as school vacation began.
The Gagliardi family of Natick was on their way to the gate for an early afternoon flight to Punta Cana, Mexico. Their two sons were wearing shorts and baseball caps showing the Patriots recent Super Bowl win.
Logan Airport was expecting very few domestic and international flights to operate on Sunday and Monday morning. It could be Wednesday morning before the airport gets back on a normal schedule.
The MBTA shutdown all service on Sunday, including The Silver Line from South Station to Logan. The four Logan Express routes also suspended service. Massport added that parking at Logan was in short supply.
