Adam Jones: Get Ready For The Nauseating Derek Jeter Farewell Tour
BOSTON (CBS) - Derek Jeter announced Wednesday he'll be retiring from Major League Baseball at the end of the 2014 season . . . let the farewell tour begin!
Some are wondering: why would Jeter announce his retirement a month and a half before opening day?
Maybe because his health has gotten so bad?
That's not out of the question considering the five-time World Series champion and 13-time All-Star played in only 17 games last season, but if Mariano Rivera's retirement extravaganza is any indication of what Jeter's will be like, get ready for a long, insufferable season Red Sox fans.
"Why did Mo Rivera make a big spectacle out of it? Why did he have to do it that way? To me, it just sort of takes away from what he did," said Adam Jones. "It's gonna be worse with Jeter. I think most Red Sox fans feel that way."
Felger: Jeter's Retirement Announcement Makes Yankees More Dangerous
It's not an apples-to-apples comparison but Jones likened Jeter to another future hall of famer in Tom Brady, and said how hard it is to imagine him doing a farewell tour.
"Would you want Tom Brady doing someting like that? Or another Boston athlete? I use Brady because I feel he's most comparable to Jeter. And I get football works differently, but I feel like I would hate that just as much. I don't want to see David Ortiz doing that. It would be nauseating no matter who it was."
