Man dies days after being accused of killing mother in Truro
NEW BEDFORD -- Authorities have confirmed that the man accused of killing his mother on the Cape last week took his own life in jail.
The Bristol County District Attorney's office said Monday that Adam Howe was found unresponsive in his cell at the Ashe Street Jail in New Bedford Sunday afternoon. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he died.
The D.A. said Howe was being checked every 15 minutes and was wearing clothes specifically designed for prisoners who are a risk to harm themselves.
Howe was arrested Friday night at his mother's home in Truro. Investigators believe he killed his mother Susan and set her body on fire on the front lawn.
