Aaron Rodgers Wins NFL MVP
BOSTON (CBS) -- Aaron Rodgers has been named MVP of the NFL for the 2014 season for the second time in his career.
The announcement was made Saturday night in Phoenix during the NFL Honors ceremony. Rodgers earned 31 of the 50 votes.
Tom Brady was in the MVP conversation, but his resume remains unchanged the night before he plays in the Super Bowl. He received just one vote.
Rodgers quarterbacked the Packers to a 12-4 record and an NFC North title. He completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 4,381 yards and threw 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
Brady likewise led the Patriots to a 12-4 record and a division title. He completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 4,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Houston defensive end J.J. Watt was thought to become the first defensive player to win MVP since Lawrence Taylor in 1986. He recorded 20.5 sacks, forced four fumbles, recovered five fumbles, intercepted one pass, scored twice on defense and scored three times on offense. Watt was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday, but he received only 13 MVP votes.
