Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers done for season with torn Achilles

Patriots fans celebrate Tom Brady's return to Gillette Stadium

NEW YORK – An MRI has confirmed the biggest fear of the New York Jets: quarterback Aaron Rodgers is done for the season.

Rodgers' season is over after just four snaps in a Jets uniform. An MRI on Tuesday revealed that the Jets quarterback suffered a torn Achilles in Monday night's overtime win over the Buffalo Bills.

Rodgers was sacked by Buffalo's Leonard Floyd on the play and fell awkwardly to the field. He was helped off and eventually carted to the New York locker room to undergo X-rays, which were negative.

But the Jets feared the Tuesday MRI would reveal a torn Achilles, and that's exactly what happened. Zach Wilson, who has struggled since he was drafted by the Jets, is expected to be the team's starter for the rest of the year.

The Patriots' AFC East rival went into the season with massive expectations after trading for Rodgers. Despite the devastating blow, the Jets pulled out a remarkable win over the Buffalo Bills. Rookie Xavier Gipson ended the game in overtime with a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown, giving the Jets a 22-16 victory.

The Patriots play the Jets on the road in Week 3.
