Aaron Hernandez Attorney Apologizes For Deflategate Joke
BOSTON (CBS) – An attorney for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez apologized on Friday for making a Deflategate joke the previous day during a cross-examination.
On Thursday defense attorney James Sultan was questioning Massachusetts State Police Trooper Timothy Dowd about tire pressure when he asked him "Did you ever receive training in football deflation devices?"
The joke was made in reference to recent controversy surrounding the Super Bowl Champion Patriots, who were accused of using under inflated footballs during the AFC Championship Game.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reported that as trial resumed on Friday, Sultan said "in hindsight, that was a mistake."
"We are here on very serious business," Judge Susan Garsh said on Friday when discussing the joke.
"I apologize to the court," Sultan responded.
Hernandez is charged with murder for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd.
Jurors will tour several locations on Friday as the trial continues, including the street where Lloyd lived, the industrial park where Lloyd's body was found, and Hernandez's North Attleboro home.
