RI man faces charges after crashing into motorcyclists in Northfield

NORTHFIELD -- A Rhode Island man is accused of driving high while veering into oncoming traffic and hitting a group of motorcyclists in Northfield.

According to the Northwestern District Attorney's office, 32-year-old Ryan O'Farrell was driving an SUV pulling a trailer when he crossed over the double yellow line and hit five motorcycles. Eight people were hospitalized and two are in critical condition.   

This happened on Route 10 around 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Two kids, ages 11 and 12, were in the SUV at the time of the crash but they appear to be uninjured. 

O'Farrell was arrested at the scene and charged with seven counts of operating under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury, operating under the influence of drugs; two counts of child endangerment; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
