Police: 61-Year-Old Man Stabbed By Neighbor In South End Condo
BOSTON (CBS) -- What happened inside the condos at 143 West Brookline in the South End is both disturbing and unusual residents say.
Neighbor Stanley Wong says, "we don't usually have incidents like this, really shocking."
Boston Police say one resident was attacked in his apartment by a neighbor with a knife.
Boston Police Superintendent Bernard O'Rourke says, "They found a victim on the 4th floor who had been stabbed multiple times in the upper torso."
The suspect, 44-year-old David Eng, is charged with assault with intent to murder and home invasion.
The men live across the hall on the 4th floor of the upscale condo complex. But friends of the victim tell WBZ, this was no fight, rather what they call an unprovoked attack.
They say the man, a 61-year-old opera singer, was in his apartment when the neighbor busted in carrying a folding knife. And police say when they arrived, they didn't have to go far, to find their suspect.
Superintendent O'Rourke says, "Upon arrival officers came upon an individual covered in blood and they detained that individual."
Police say Eng was covered in blood and had knife wounds. He was treated at a hospital and released to police.
Several people who live in the building say there have been problems with him before and he had been warned by the association.
But for now the focus is on their friend.
Fernando, a friend of the victim says, "He's a good guy, I can tell you that 100 percent, known him a long time."
Police have charged the neighbor, who has not been identified, with attempted murder. The victim is at Tufts Medical center in critical condition.
