2 Provincetown Men Facing Several Drug, Assault Charges
PROVINCETOWN (CBS) -- Two Provincetown men are facing a slew of drug and assault charges following an investigation by Provincetown and Truro police.
Gary Call, 63, and 41-year-old Joseph Drenel were taken into custody after a traffic stop around 6 p.m. on Friday.
Detectives tried to stop the vehicle, driven by Call and Drenel a passenger, at the intersection of Route 6 eastbound and Conwell Street. Call allegedly drove the 2011 Subaru Legacy through a red light as officers approached and trapped the arm of an officer inside the car.
Investigators say a Truro police officer was dragged for more than 100 yards across Route 6 and southbound onto Conwell Street into oncoming traffic. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital where he was treated and later released.
Drenel ran from the scene and was caught by detectives, police say. Call was also arrested at the scene.
After receiving a warrant, police allegedly found drugs, scales, cutting materials, drug paraphernalia, an Airsoft gun with the safety tip painted black, military-style knives and five serrated double-edged knives at the men's homes.
Both men have been charged with possession with the intent to distribute a class A drug (heroin), possession with the intent to distribute a class B drug (cocaine), possession of a class E drug, conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to kill, failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
The men are being held without bail. They will be arraigned Monday in Orleans District Court.
