1 Dead, Another Wounded In Back Bay Shooting

BOSTON (CBS) - Police are looking to the public for help in catching the gunman who shot and killed one man and wounded another as they sat inside a car near Gloucester and Boylston streets Saturday night.

Boston Police responded to the Back Bay intersection around 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found two men in their 20s inside a car and suffering from gunshot wounds, Boston Police Superintendent Kevin Buckley told reporters at the scene.

Both men were sent to area hospitals for treatment. One has died, and the second victim suffered gunshot wounds that do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Police shut down the area of Boylston Street near the Prudential Center as investigators combed the neighborhood.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be random.

Bullet holes could be seen on the passenger side window of a gray Nissan sedan.

The shooting occurred during the New England Patriots game against the Tennessee Titans, in a busy stretch of Back Bay that has several popular bars, restaurants and stores.

People out in upscale Back Bay for the evening said they were shocked to see the area cordoned off with police tape. They described a chaotic scene.

"It was crazy. You just don't expect it," said Ciran O'Doherty, who went outside of a bar to have a cigarette and saw first responders placing one of the victims into an ambulance.

Robert Saenz was inside nearby Whiskey's bar when he "heard a lot of commotion" outside.

"There was a lot of people running everywhere outside," he said, adding that he did not feel unsafe while inside the bar.

"It could happen anywhere," he said of the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is strongly urged to call 1-800-494-TIPS or Boston Police homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.
