2 MBTA Police Officers On Motorcycles Hurt In Crash

BOSTON (CBS) - Two MBTA police officers on motorcycles were hurt in a crash in East Boston Friday morning.

It happened on Bennington Street around 10:30 a.m.

A witness told WBZ-TV a woman in a sedan was trying to turn left to make an illegal u-turn in the street when the cycles slammed into the car's left side.

One officer was seen lying on the pavement, the other was clutching one of his legs after the crash.

An MBTA spokesman said the injuries were serious but "not life-threatening."

A 37-year old police officer with eight years on the force is being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for multiple injuries, including a broken leg which will require surgery.

The other officer, a three-year veteran who's 29-years old, was sent to Boston Medical Center for X-rays.

The driver of the car was taken away by police.

There's no word yet on charges.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
