2 Killed, 1 Hospitalized In North End Car Crash

BOSTON (CBS) - Two people were killed in a crash in the North End early Friday morning. A BMW convertible flipped on Commercial and Charter Street just before 3 a.m.

Three men in their 20's were in the car at the time of the accident, according to Boston Police. Two died and the third person was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital in critical condition.

One of the men who died has been identified as 21-year-old Connor Darcey.

He was a lacrosse star at Wellesley High School and now his former teammates feel the pain. "He was an awesome kid," said Charlie Jennings. "Just always the life of the party, he was the nicest kid, just someone you always wanted to be around, such a contagious smile."

Connor went on to star in college; becoming the starting goalie for Penn State. He was home for the summer.

"Our hearts go out to Connor Darcey's family, teammates, friends and everyone who knew him," the Penn State University athletics department said in a statement. "It's a very sad day. The Penn State family has suffered a tremendous loss and we are deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family, friends, fellow students and the men's lacrosse family."

Close friend Sam Lawrence spent Thursday with Darcey in Maine.

"Hard to believe just 24 hours ago we were just me and him up at my Maine house on the boat, just yesterday and then we came home," Lawrence said. "I guess in retrospect, I'm glad I got to have that little last time with him."

An unidentified 27-year-old man was also killed in the accident which is under investigation.

One of Connor's high school classmates, also 21, was badly hurt in the crash and is at Mass General. Police say his injuries are serious but not life threatening.

Police said speed was a possible factor in Friday's crash.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reported that all three people were ejected from the car.
