1 Dies, Another Injured In 2-Car NH Crash

SALEM, N.H. (AP) — Police in Salem, New Hampshire, are investigating a two-car crash that killed one person and injured another.

Salem police say one of the drivers, identified as 33-year-old Phillip Carter of Salem, was ejected Tuesday night on Route 28.

Police said he was attempting to pull out of a Salem Ford parking lot and travel north on Route 28 when he was struck by a southbound car driven by 26-year-old Michael Gomez of Lowell, Massachusetts. The impact sheered Carter's vehicle in half. He later died at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Gomez was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Lawrence General Hospital.

Police said speed was considered a contributing factor to the crash. Investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine if drugs and/or alcohol may have also contributed to the collision.
