World Cup Frenzy In Fells Point After USA Win

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Baltimore has always been a soccer town and fans here are excited over the women's World Cup team as they make their way to the finals.

Ron Matz reports one local restaurant is really feeling the frenzy.

The USA Women's World Cup soccer team is on a roll.

"I think it's great. They've played great soccer. Its built up over the past few games--they played their best game last night, they deserve to be there," said Andy Mezeske,

And the crowds are pouring into Slainte Irish Pub in Fells Point where Baltimore fans come to root for the home team.

"It's been building and building. We started off with great crowds but now it's a fever pitch. You have to get here about two hours before hand…its amazing," said Jeff Bejma, Slainte General Manager.

The amazing two to nothing win over Germany has local fans wanting more.

Up next for the USA women's team, the winner of the Japan-England match and then the final is set in Vancouver, Sunday night.

"I  love it, go USA!. It's the best, we need this, we earned it, we deserve it. And right here at the fourth of July, it's even better," said Monica Sullivan, Owings Mills.

Sunday night's final in Vancouver will be played at 7:00 p.m.
