Worker Electrocuted In Industrial Accident At Md. Prison

WESTOVER, Md. (AP) -- Officials say a contractor worker was electrocuted and a second was hurt while they were doing electrical work at Maryland's largest prison.

Gia Oei, global communications leader at GE Industrial Solutions, says the two General Electric employees were working an electrical control upgrade at Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover Thursday morning. Maryland Environmental Services, an independent state agency, operates the co-generation power plant.

Oei tells The Daily Times of Salisbury that the electrocuted worker received a shock and died. The other worker was taken to a hospital in Salisbury.

A corrections spokesman says there was no loss of power to the facility and there was little disruption at the prison, which houses some 3,200 inmates.

Maryland Occupational Safety and Health is investigation the incident.
