Woman Fatally Stabbed While Walking Her Dogs In Roland Park

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City police are trying to find a killer they say fatally stabbed a woman walking her dogs in the Roland Park neighborhood.

George Solis has the latest on the investigation and the victim.

The murder of 59-year-old Molly Macauley has stunned the neighborhood and those who knew her best. The question on everyone's mind: why?

Police tell WJZ Macauley was walking her dogs late Friday evening when someone fatally stabbed her and left her for dead in the 6-hundred block of University Parkway.

"She was transported to an area hospital where unfortunately she died from her injuries," said Jeremy Silbert, Baltimore police.

Police have not named a suspect or motive.

Residents in the otherwise quiet neighborhood say they are at a loss for words over the violent murder.

"Within our neighborhood, no, I've never felt unsafe," said Roland Park resident Lulu Kauffman.

WJZ is learning Macauley worked for Resources For the Future in Washington, an organization that produces research on the environment and natural resources. Pete Nelson worked with and was friends with Macauley for the last 20 years.

"When I think of what we lost, we just lost an extraordinarily kind person," Nelson said.

He says she had a quirky sense of humor and loved all things Baltimore.

"We'd say, `Come on, Molly, it's such a long commute; why don't you just move down here?' She wouldn't have it," Nelson said.

Her fellow coworker and friend Margaret Walls told WJZ she was also an animal lover, having adopted the two dogs that were with her when she was killed.

"She was really a dog person and she worked with rescue organizations," Walls said.

Police tell WJZ they will have an increased presence in the community.

Police are also asking anyone with security cameras to see if they noticed anything suspicious in the neighborhood before the attack.

Anyone with information on the brutal murder is urged to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
