Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Allegedly Was Texting
HAGERTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Police say a woman was texting behind the wheel when her car struck and killed a bicyclist near Hagerstown in January.
Twenty-four-year-old Nadine Rager had her bond set at $10,000 during a hearing Thursday afternoon in Hagerstown. It was her first court appearance since she was charged in an indictment Wednesday with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and unlawful text messaging in the hit-and-run collision that killed 47-year-old John Bushman.
Rager couldn't be reached immediately for comment. Her public defender didn't return a call from The Associated Press.
Bushman, who worked as forklift operator, was killed Jan. 29 while riding his bicycle along West Washington Street, also known as state Route 144, just west of Hagerstown.
