With DeflateGate Behind Him, Brady Featured In New Under Armour Commercial
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--With DeflateGate behind him, Tom Brady took to the field last night in the NFL season opener and performed like a pro. That was perfect timing for Baltimore-based Under Armour which launched a new, 30 second commercial starring Brady.
WJZ's Mary Bubala has more.
By releasing this commercial Under Armour is looking beyond Tom Brady's controversy, keeping its commitment to the quarterback which signed on as a pitchman in 2010.
It was just last week a federal judge overturned the NFL's 4-game suspension of Brady. Experts say it's possible the TV ad may never have been seen if that didn't happen.
"They don't want to be associated with the negativity, no brand is going to want to put out the fact that they are endorsing who's not in a positive light at the moment," said Shana Harris, COO Warschawski.
Under Armour says the ad is part of it's recently launched "Rule Yourself" campaign.
The company said the ad depicts Tom Brady's relentless will and his intense commitment to training.
"Under Armour does a great job of always being authentic they go after the real players who have that drive who live and breathe whatever sport they do and who don't stop, they keep going."
Tom Brady wears number 199 in the ad because he was drafted 199th in the 2000 NFL draft.
NBA star Stephen Curry and ballet dancer Misty Copeland are also featured in the Under Armour campaign.
